WindEurope appoints Van der Straeten as new chief

Tinne Van der Straeten (pictured) is to become WindEurope’s new CEO on 2 February 2026.

WindEurope said the former Belgian energy minister brings extensive national and EU policy experience to the role, including stints as chair of the North Sea Energy Cooperation in 2020 and at the start of 2025.

Van der Straeten added that she is “honoured to be appointed CEO of WindEurope, and grateful for the trust placed in me”.

She stated: “It’s a responsibility I take on with determination at a defining moment for Europe.”

Henrik Andersen, WindEurope chairman, said he is pleased to welcome Van der Straeten as the association’s new chief.

He added: “As one of Europe’s influential energy leaders, Tinne has passionately ensured wind is kept high on the political agenda in her home country of Belgium and across the EU.”

The WindEurope board thanked former CEO Giles Dickson for his 10 years of leadership.

WindEurope said Van der Straeten will prioritise affordability, industrial competitiveness and energy security.

It added that wind could save Europe up to €1.6tn as part of a renewables-based system.

The association said Europe must deliver on the Clean Industrial Deal and accelerate renewable buildout.

WindEurope stated that wind provides 20% of Europe’s electricity today, rising to 34% by 2030 with the right policies.

It added that the EU installed 13GW of new wind capacity in 2025, less than half of what is needed for 2030 targets.

“The wind sector is at a turning point,” said Van der Straeten.

She added: “The industry is ready to accelerate and to provide more than 600,000 jobs by 2030. But it is held back by permitting issues and infrastructure delays.”
