Orrön Energy secures UK grid links for 2.9GW

Q Energy offloads French renewables portfolio

Orrön Energy has secured grid connections for six large-scale UK projects totalling an estimated 2900MW as part of the country’s grid reform process.

The portfolio includes three solar projects with a combined estimated capacity of 1.8GW and three data centre projects totalling an estimated 1.1GW, the company said.

Binding grid offers and details on connection dates are expected in the third quarter of 2026, and Orrön Energy added that it will evaluate divestment options once final agreements are issued.

The projects are now at the ready-to-permit stage with both land and grid secured.

In Germany, three solar projects with a combined capacity of about 250MW have obtained municipal approval, including one that formed part of a recent portfolio sale.

The company stated that it has also advanced a significant pipeline of large-scale battery projects with land secured and expects to receive grid confirmation early this year.

This follows recent sales processes in which 310MW of projects have been sold for a total consideration of MEUR 18, subject to key development milestones.

Orrön Energy said it continues to mature a growing pipeline of additional projects from the platform and will consider further opportunities to crystallise value.

Chief executive Daniel Fitzgerald commented: “I am very pleased with the strong progress and results coming out of our greenfield platforms in the UK and Germany.”

He added: “Securing the Gate 2 grid connections in the UK enables us to move ahead with some of the discussions that were temporarily paused due to the now concluded grid reform process.”

He stated: “Meanwhile, the German platform has reached a level of maturity where project monetisation is underway.”

He said: “With an average sales price of around 55 TEUR per MW during 2025, combined with the scale of our portfolio I am confident that this will deliver significant value for us moving forward.”
