Korea plans annual offshore wind deployment of 4GW by 2030 under a new government roadmap.
The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment announced the initiative and outlined aims including 10.5GW of cumulative capacity by 2030 and over 25GW by 2035.
Additional targets such as lowering generation costs to 250KRW/kWh by 2030 and below 150KRW/kWh by 2035 are also included, according to the ministry.
Korea Country Manager JuMan Kim at GWEC said: “Korea is entering a decisive phase in its offshore wind journey.”
Kim added: “By addressing critical challenges such as infrastructure limitations, financing barriers, and complex permitting processes, this initiative lays the foundation for sustainable growth and accelerates the country’s transition to clean energy.”
The plan also includes development of a 20MW-class domestic turbine, floating wind technology demonstration and the launch of an Offshore Wind Power Promotion Task Force to streamline permitting and accelerate timelines.
