NextEra signs clean energy deals with tech giants

NextEra Energy has expanded its technology and clean energy partnerships with Google and Meta through new agreements covering multiple gigawatts of power, data centre developments and digital transformation.

The collaboration with Google will see the partners jointly develop multiple gigawatt-scale data centre campuses in the US and work on enterprise-wide AI deployment, said NextEra Energy chairman and chief executive John Ketchum.

Google Cloud chief executive Thomas Kurian added that the work includes AI-enhanced field operations and grid-forecasting tools, with the first commercial product expected in the Google Cloud Marketplace by mid-2026.

The announcement builds on the companies’ existing relationship, which includes approximately 3.5GW in operation or contracted and recent long-term power purchase agreements in Iowa and Oklahoma.

NextEra Energy Resources and Meta have separately reached about 2.5GW of clean energy contracts across 13 projects scheduled to come online between 2026 and 2028, according to the partners.

The deals include 2.1GW of solar across ERCOT, SPP and MISO, as well as 190MW of solar and 168MW of storage in New Mexico supported through PNM’s Rate 36B, said New Mexico governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Meta head of energy Urvi Parekh stated: “We are proud to continue our collaboration with NextEra Energy Resources in advancing energy infrastructure and storage solutions.”

NextEra Energy Resources president and chief executive Brian Bolster added that the agreements build on nearly 500MW of operating projects already supported by Meta and reflect a shared commitment to American energy leadership.
