Q Energy France has signed a 300MW repowering partnership with independent renewable energy producer Nadara, taking its national wind repowering portfolio beyond 1GW.
The agreement was announced at the France Renouvelables National Conference and strengthens Q Energy’s position as the market leader in authorised repowering capacity and third-party development, it said.
The company added the partnership underlines its role as a key player in France’s energy transition, as older wind farms reach the end of their operational lifespans.
Industry estimates suggest that around 5.8GW of existing capacity in France could be repowered by 2032, requiring the dismantling of approximately 3400 turbines.
Q Energy began developing its repowering business in 2016 with the Souleilla-Corbières wind farm in Treilles, Occitanie.
The company has now entered five partnerships with various asset owners covering more than 1GW of capacity, of which about 200MW have already been permitted.
Following the successful repowering of Souleilla-Corbières in 2023, Q Energy is currently rebuilding the Cuxac project in Occitanie and the Marsanne wind farm in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, where turbines are being relocated beyond the original site boundaries.
