Eneco has expanded its renewable energy partnership with Google through a new Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply the company’s data centres in Belgium with locally produced wind energy.
The deal covers output from three Belgian wind farms with a combined capacity of 54MW, strengthening Eneco’s collaboration with Google, which already includes multiple solar and wind energy contracts in the Netherlands.
Google’s data centre in Belgium underpins its global digital services, including cloud computing, email, AI applications and search functions. The new PPA supports Google’s goal of operating on carbon-free energy around the clock by 2030.
The announcement coincided with a Belgian trade delegation to California led by Princess Astrid of Belgium, during which Google confirmed plans to expand its Belgian data centre.
Eneco’s latest agreement builds on its decade-long partnership with Google, which began with renewable power supply arrangements for the tech giant’s facilities in the Netherlands, drawing energy from onshore, nearshore and offshore wind farms across the country.
