Deep Wind Offshore has secured a positive recommendation from the County Administrative Board of Uppsala for its planned Olof Skötkonung offshore wind farm in the Gulf of Gävle.
The case now moves to the Swedish Government for final approval under the Act on the Exclusive Economic Zone.
The developer said the 1.4GW project would generate about 5.5TWh of electricity annually, meeting demand in bidding zone SE3 where new capacity is urgently required.
Country manager Magnus Hallman (pictured) said: “We welcome the County Administrative Board’s recommendation. It confirms the strength of the Olof Skötkonung project and its role in securing Sweden’s future energy supply.”
He added: “Offshore wind is the fastest tool the Government has to bring large-scale power into the system at a time when new capacity is in high demand.”
Deep Wind Offshore is also assessing potential connections to both the transmission and regional grids to maximise local benefits.
The company expects construction could start in 2027 if the government gives the green light.
