Neoen has signed a 10-year 100MW renewable energy baseload agreement to supply power to BHP’s copper mines in South Australia from July 2029.
The deal will provide round-the-clock power to Olympic Dam, Carrapateena and Prominent Hill by combining output from the first 300MW of Neoen’s planned Goyder North Wind Farm with storage from the 200MW/800MWh Goyder Battery.
It builds on the partners’ first baseload agreement of 70MW, which began in July 2025 using Neoen’s Goyder South Stage 1 Wind Farm and Blyth Battery. Together, the two contracts are expected to meet about 70% of BHP’s electricity demand in South Australia by 2030.
Goyder North has consent for up to 1GW of wind capacity, while the Goyder Battery is approved for 900MW/3600MWh. Once in construction, Neoen’s contribution to South Australia’s energy transition will surpass 1.5GW.
Neoen Australia chief executive Jean-Christophe Cheylus said: “This second agreement to supply power to BHP demonstrates Neoen’s end-to-end expertise in designing, delivering and deploying customised energy solutions that can meet the growing demands of customers and support the pace of Australia’s transition.”
BHP Copper South Australia asset president Anna Wiley said: “Together with our initial arrangement with Neoen, we expect to be able to meet about 70% of Copper SA’s electricity needs from renewable electricity in FY2030.”
Neoen group chief executive Xavier Barbaro said: “Through continuously delivering smarter products, Neoen’s ambition is to become the partner of choice for energy-intensive industries in Australia, and around the world.”
