Sonnedix has expanded its Italian portfolio with the acquisition of five projects totalling 226MW from Capital Dynamics.
The deal lifts the company’s operational capacity in Italy above 800MW. Four of the newly acquired assets in Sicily and Lazio are already in operation.
With around 500MW under construction, Sonnedix said it remains on track to reach 1GW of operating capacity in the country by year end. Its 1.1GW development pipeline is expected to double capacity to 2GW within three years.
The company is also entering the Italian battery storage market, having started work on its first project – an 18MW/4h system in Sicily co-located with a 70MW PV plant under construction.
Sonnedix chief executive Axel Thiemann said: “These latest acquisitions are a testament to our long-term commitment to delivering clean, affordable, and reliable energy to customers. Looking ahead, our focus is on continuing to convert our pipeline, particularly exploring opportunities in battery storage and hybridisation.”
Mario Volpe, head of growth for southern Europe, added: “With a strong pipeline of projects currently under construction, we are accelerating towards our target of 2GW operational capacity by the end of 2028. As we grow, we continue focusing on developing battery energy storage solutions and delivering a long-term, reliable, and 100% renewable supply of energy.”
