Nadara has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of onshore wind repowering to meet the UK’s 2030 clean power goals.
The company said repowering is essential for achieving 27-29GW of onshore wind capacity by 2030 and up to 37GW by 2035, helping secure energy supply and cut carbon emissions.
Nadara explained that replacing ageing turbines with modern machines on existing sites can increase output by up to tenfold depending on conditions, while reusing infrastructure reduces environmental impact.
Chief commercial officer Joanna Ellis told the Onshore Wind Conference in Edinburgh: “Our campaign is about starting an open conversation with communities about our wind farm upgrades. As a country, we need to meet the 2030 Clean Power ambition, and secure cleaner and reliable energy for decades to come – and repowering will support the UK in doing that.”
She added: “The benefits of repowering reach further than just energy: reduced carbon emissions, training and skills for people, thousands of new jobs and millions of pounds in funding for host communities.”
Nadara said repowering its oldest projects could deliver power for an extra 3m homes, create up to 27,000 jobs and bring economic opportunities to rural areas.
The campaign is supported by a new video featuring Nadara wind farms and communities across the UK.
Nadara has 1GW of onshore wind under the Renewables Obligation and is among the first developers in the UK to begin large-scale repowering.
