German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has indicated Berlin is considering a slower renewables expansion than planned.
Merz told a group of energy sector works councils his government may “do a bit less in terms of expansion”, according to reports in Germany.

Economics and Energy Minister Katherina Reiche is to publish a monitoring report on the status of the energy transition next week.
It will serve as a roadmap for the future plans of the government.
“I hope that we can achieve this in the coalition, and it will have consequences,” Merz is reported to have said.
“My assumption is that we might do a bit less in terms of expansion. And that will, of course, bring about significant changes in costs.”
