Vestas begins operations at former LM Wind plant

Vestas has officially taken over operations at the Goleniów onshore wind turbine blade factory in Poland.

This follows the agreement signed with previous owner LM Wind Power, part of GE Vernova, on 15 May 2025. All necessary regulatory approvals have now been completed.

The factory was established in 2009, expanded in 2017 and will continue to deliver blades for Vestas onshore wind solutions, including the V172-7.2MW EnVentus turbine (prototype pictured).

Chief technology and operations officer at Vestas Felix Henseler said: “Strengthening our manufacturing capacity is essential to meet Europe’s need for secure, affordable, and sustainable energy, and expand our industrial competitiveness.

“The addition of the Goleniów factory reinforces our commitment to scaling the wind industry and it underlines how Europe can spur wind industry investments and jobs with the right long-term policy commitments for wind energy.”

All approximately 400 former LM Wind Power employees are being retained, which increases Vestas’ footprint in Poland to almost 2000 employees.

Vestas also operates an assembly factory in Szczecin, which manufactures hubs and nacelles for the V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbine.

The company said that together the two facilities strengthen its ability to serve both onshore and offshore markets in Europe and globally.

LM Wind Power chief executive Hanif Mashal said: “We are pleased to complete the transfer of this facility to Vestas.

“This transaction enables us to simplify our business and reinvest the capital into core EU manufacturing facilities producing GE Vernova wind products to better serve our loyal customer base in the region.”
