Engie has signed a contract with Kallista Energy to optimise a 120MW / 240MWh battery storage project in France.
Kallista Energy is building the battery energy storage system (BESS) in Saleux in the Somme, Hauts-de-France.
The batteries will be optimised by Engie to provide services to the electricity grid and manage the recharge and discharge cycles.
Engie will be responsible for the commercial operation of the site for seven years, while Kallista Energy will manage its technical operation.
The BESS site in Saleux (pictured) marks Engie’s first major battery storage optimisation contract in France.
Construction of the Saleux site has already started and will be completed at the end of 2026.
The project was developed by Kallista Energy, which is financing it with its partner banks Landesbank Saar (SAAR-LB) and BNP Paribas.
The turnkey construction of the site will be carried out by Envision Energy, which will also be in charge of its maintenance as well as the recycling of the batteries at the end of their operational life.
President of the Kallista Energy Group Johann Tardy said: “For the realisation of its first battery electricity storage project, Kallista Energy has surrounded itself with trusted partners at all levels: design, financing, construction, maintenance and recycling.
“This collaboration with Engie on battery optimisation gives us the assurance that the Saleux site will be used to its maximum capacity to help accelerate the electrification of our uses.”
Henri Domenanch, director in charge of energy management activites at Engie, said: “This partnership with Kallista Energy fully illustrates our commitment to supporting the energy transition with innovative and efficient solutions.
“By optimising the operation of the Saleux site, Engie is demonstrating its ability to enhance the flexibility of the electricity grid while supporting the integration of renewable energies.”
