The operator of the electric grid for the New England region of the US has warned that the Trump administration’s move to shut down construction of Orsted and Skyborn’s 704MW Revolution Wind project will make the grid less reliable.
ISO New England said in a statement: “The ISO is expecting this project to come online and it is included in our analyses of near-term and future grid reliability.
“Delaying the project will increase risks to reliability.”
The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management issued the stop-work order on Friday.
Orsted said earlier this month that the project was 80% complete, and has a commercial operations date in 2026.
“Beyond near-term impacts to reliability in the summer and winter peak periods, delays in the availability of new resources will adversely affect New England’s economy and industrial growth, including potential future data centres,” said the ISO.
