The US Department of Commerce has added 407 product categories to Section 232 steel and aluminium tariffs, which now carry a 50% duty rate.
The expanded scope covers wind turbines and components, as well as other equipment such as mobile cranes, bulldozers, railcars, compressors, pumps and other equipment.
Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security Jeffrey Kessler said: “Today’s action expands the reach of the steel and aluminum tariffs and shuts down avenues for circumvention – supporting the continued revitalization of the American steel and aluminum industries.”
The announcement follows a series of proclamations by President Trump earlier this year that removed carve-outs, addressed duty evasion schemes and doubled tariff levels from 25% to 50%.
Commerce established a process in May to add derivative steel and aluminium products to the tariffs, with three annual windows for public inclusion requests. The next round opens in September and will be announced in the Federal Register.
The full list of 407 product categories is available in the annex to the Federal Register notice.
