Noise study takes place at Scottish wind farm site

Noise study takes place at Scottish wind farm site

A noise monitoring study has been carried out at Muirhall Energy’s proposed new 130MW wind farm in Scotland.

The North Logiealmond wind farm lies approximately 18km northwest of Perth within the land of Scone Estates and will consist of 18 turbines with maximum tip heights of 200 metres.

For the noise monitoring study (pictured), ZX Measurement Services deployed a ZX 300 wind Lidar to provide precise wind data for correlation with acoustic measurements, enabling a more detailed and accurate noise impact assessment.

ZX Measurement Services said noise monitoring is a critical tool for risk management, planning, and community engagement, ensuring wind farms are developed responsibly.

The company said by capturing data at hub height, the ZX 300 helps improve the precision and efficiency of environmental impact assessments for proposed wind farms.

Muirhall Energy can access all the Lidar data via the ZX Data Portal, a secure cloud-based platform offering near-real-time access to wind data.

“With our integrated approach – combining the latest Lidar technology with instant data access via our portal – clients like Muirhall Energy can gain actionable insights efficiently and reliably,” said Joanna Cadman-Goodwin, commercial manager at ZX Measurement Services.

“This deployment showcases our integrated approach to supporting renewable energy development across Europe.”

The North Logiealmond wind farm project is in the development stage, with a Section 36 application for consent expected in the autumn of 2025.

According to Muirhall Energy, the clean power generated from the wind farm could potentially supply electricity for almost 120,000 homes and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 164,000 tonnes.

As part of the project, the developer has pledged to provide the community with more than £900,000 of funding every year.
