Orsted has installed and energised the first offshore export cable system for the 920MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan.
The company said the installation milestone (pictured) marks a critical step towards first power.
The export cable system is the first of three such systems that will connect the wind farms to Taiwan’s grid.
Orsted said the completion of the first system reflects the team’s “proactive planning, execution, and perseverance in a technically complex offshore environment”.
For the latest milestone, comprehensive pre-installation work had to be carried out before the cable system was put in place and energised.
In total, Orsted said 16 vessels were mobilised along with 45 specialised personnel.
Earlier this month, Orsted completed the installation of all 66 suction bucket jacket foundations at Greater Changhua 2b and 4.
These will serve as foundations for 66 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines, each with a capacity of 14MW, making them the largest of their kind to be deployed in the Taiwan Strait.
The two wind farms, located 35-60km off the coast of Changhua County, are scheduled to be fully connected to the grid in 2026.
