ABS has granted approval in principle to Hanwha Ocean for a new semisubmersible floating wind foundation designed to support 15MW turbines.
The concept, named WindHive 15-H3, features three hexagonal columns and has been reviewed against applicable class and industry standards.
Hanwha Ocean said the AIP marked a key milestone in its strategy to expand its position in the global offshore wind market through innovation and value chain development.
ABS vice president for global offshore renewables Rob Langford said: “Floating offshore wind power is set to play a critical role in the world’s future energy landscape, and we are proud to collaborate with industry leaders like Hanwha Ocean on innovative solutions that are focused on advancing safety at sea.”
ABS said its role included providing design assessments and expert guidance to ensure safety and efficiency for offshore assets.
