ABO Energy has been given the go-ahead to build a 165MW wind farm in Alberta, Canada.
The company said the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) has granted a permit and licence for the Fox Meadows wind project.
The project consists of an up to 165MW wind power plant and a 70MW / 219MWh battery energy storage facility.
Up to 25 turbines and around 90 battery storage containers will be installed for the project, which will also include access roads, a transmission line, underground collector lines/system, a substation, and a meteorological tower.
ABO Energy said Fox Meadows will be a sustainable source of revenue for its estimated 25-year life.
Located on privately-owned land between the town of Provost and the village of Edgerton, the wind farm will consist of turbines ranging from 6.2MW to 7.2MW each. The overall project site is expected to cover around 40 acres of land, including six acres for the battery storage facility.
ABO Energy said Fox Meadows would provide a cost-effective source of enough clean energy for approximately 65,000 homes and will contribute to Alberta’s target of 30% renewable energy electricity generation by 2030.
Fox Meadows will also bring approximately 150 to 200 jobs to the region during the construction period and an estimated $70m in goods and services contracts to Alberta, according to the developer.
