Teams from Jan De Nul have pulled two export cables ashore for the 1GW Thor offshore wind farm in Denmark.
These cables will carry green energy from the wind farm site, located 22km out in the North Sea, to the mainland.
The largest offshore wind project in Denmark, Thor is owned by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%).
Once completed, Thor will have enough capacity to power over one million Danish households with renewable energy.
The offshore wind farm is expected to start generating power in 2026, with full commissioning due by the end of 2027.
Jan De Nul Group, in partnership with Hellenic Cables, was awarded a contract in 2023 to deliver both the export cable as well as inter-array cable systems for the Thor project.
The turnkey contract consists of two 275kV HVAC export cables, each with an onshore length of 13km and an offshore length of 30km, as well as 200km of 66kV inter-array cables to connect the 72 different wind turbines.
Hellenic Cables is responsible for the design and manufacture of all the cables, while Jan De Nul has been tasked with the transportation, laying and burial works.
