Equinor and Polenergia have submitted a pre-qualification application to the Energy Regulatory Office for the Bałtyk 1 offshore wind farm project to participate in the first offshore auction in Poland.

It is the first such application submitted to the Energy Regulatory Office for the 2025 offshore auction, which will be held on 17 December.

With a capacity of up to 1560MW, the Baltyk 1 wind farm is the largest offshore wind energy project in Poland, implemented in the so-called Phase 2 of offshore development.

Equinor’s country manager for Poland Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk said: “This is a true milestone not just for our teams, but for Poland’s energy security and the ongoing transformation of the energy system.

“The President of URE has officially announced the first auction for offshore wind in Poland, opening a brand new chapter in our country’s energy history.

“Bałtyk 1 is ready to compete in this groundbreaking process, paving the way for the most effective offshore projects to shape our future energy mix.”

The auction will be held on 17 December and the condition for participation is to pass the pre-qualification process conducted by the Energy Regulatory Office.

Located on the Central Bank, about 81km from the coast, the Baltyk 1 wind farm will consist of up to 104 wind turbines and will be able to power up to 2 million Polish households with green energy.

Bałtyk 1 is the third project being developed jointly by Equinor and Polenergia in the Polish Baltic Sea – next to Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3, for which final investment decisions have been made.

The total capacity of all three projects developed by the partners is 3GW.
