SafetyOn has reported the lowest incident rates on record in the UK onshore wind sector, despite a surge in industry activity during 2024.
The organisation’s latest Incident Data report shows an 8% increase in reported incidents to 654, but this came alongside a 17% rise in hours worked, reaching 8.8 million. As a result, the Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) fell to 0.27 and the Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF) to 0.08-both at their lowest levels since reporting began.
Lost work day incidents dropped by 59%, falling from 17 in 2023 to just seven in 2024, marking the first time this figure has reached single digits. No fatalities were recorded for the second consecutive year.
High potential incidents fell by 8% to 97 cases, making up just 15% of all incidents-the lowest proportion since 2020.
Hand injuries declined by 15%, and injuries involving hand and power tools dropped by 71%. However, manual handling incidents increased and now represent the most common injury type in the sector.
SafetyOn highlighted a rise in access and egress incidents, which more than doubled, and a 75% increase in incidents involving fallen objects. The organisation said these evolving risks will require renewed industry attention.
