MET Energia Italia and metallurgy company Eredi Gnutti Metalli (EGM) have inked a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the supply of energy from wind farms in Italy.
Through this long-term energy supply contract, EGM commits to purchasing an annual quantity of electricity at a fixed price for a decade.
The electricity covered by the PPA and its Guarantees of Origin will be generated by Italian wind projects.
The quantity involved represents approximately 9% of the Brescia-based plant’s energy needs, allowing EGM to become more efficient and sustainable.
EGM general manager Nicola Gnutti Cantele said: “In a global context where energy transition has become a strategic priority for many companies, EGM chose to take another significant step towards environmental sustainability.”
MET Energia Italia chief executive Giuseppe Rebuzzini added: “The ability to provide tailor-made solutions for large industrial clients is a defining characteristic of our operations.
“Through this deal, Eredi Gnutti Metalli can stabilise the price of its energy supply for the long term.”
The MET Group added that for a highly energy-intensive sector such as metallurgy, the adoption of renewable sources of power represents a significant shift.
