A public consultation is to begin on plans to transform the port of Cherbourg into an offshore wind hub.
Ports de Normandie is launching the consultation from 5 June to 11 July to gauge views on plans to create a new heavy quay at the port of Cherbourg, called Flamands Zéro (FL0).
The project aims to strengthen the port’s position as a key player in renewable marine energies, particularly offshore wind energy. This includes both fixed and floating wind projects.
Over the past 10 years, the port of Cherbourg has established itself as a major site in this field, creating nearly 800 jobs.
To respond to the growing sector and increasing logistical needs, Ports de Normandie plans to construct a 140-metre-long heavy quay, capable of supporting up to 20 tonnes per square metre, with infrastructure suitable for future wind farms.
The new dock will help maintain and develop the industrial activity of the port while meeting France’s energy transition objectives.
The consultation aims to involve residents, users, and local stakeholders from the early stages of the project.
