Spanish clean power company Grenergy has launched a reverse auction in Chile for the sale of nearly two terawatt hours a year of energy from its solar and battery plants.
The 1.7 TWh/year auction is being conducted through Grenergy’s power commercialisation division in Chile, GR Power.
This initiative is aimed at generators, retailers and large consumers with energy demand in the coming years, “offering an innovative and competitive way of buying and selling energy”.
The auction envisages the injection of 1400GWh/year of energy stored in batteries during the night period, in addition to 300GWh of photovoltaic production, with supply expected between the first half of 2026 and the first half of 2027.
This is the second time Grenergy has launched its own renewable energy auction.
In March 2022, the company became the first clean energy producer in Latin America to hold such an auction.
Thanks to this model, the reach is extended to a larger number of generators, marketers and other corporations interested in the energy transition.
The auction is conducted through the local electricity marketplace Match Energia.
The application phase is now open and will run until 6 May.
Having operation for more than 12 years in Chile, Grenergy has one of the largest renewable energy portfolios in the country, which includes a pipeline of 18.3GWh of storage and 4.1GW of solar.
This includes Oasis de Atacama, Grenergy’s flagship project and one of the largest battery systems in the world.
