The German Federal Network Agency has granted a permit to Amprion for the construction of the 300km A-Nord underground cable route, which will transport 2GW of wind energy from northern to southern Germany.
“With this final approval, we can now build anywhere along the route,” said Matthias Gierlich, the TSO’s project manager for A-Nord.
The cable route is divided into six sections for the planning approval process.
All sections have now been approved by the Federal Network Agency, allowing Amprion to build along the entire route.
According to the company, Amprion has already begun construction in Nordhorn and Bad Bentheim.
“The planning center in Nordhorn will serve as the central coordination point for the construction work,” the company stated.
The A-Nord underground cable route is designed to collect wind power from the North Sea region near Emden and transport it to Meerbusch-Osterath, near Düsseldorf.
One section of the route, NDS3, is approximately 30 kilometers long and extends from the municipal border between Wietmarschen and Nordhorn to the state border between Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.
