Smulders acquires HSM Offshore Energy

Eiffage Métal’s Belgian subsidiary Smulders has acquired HSM Offshore Energy.

HSM Offshore Energy is an integrated solution supplier in engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC), in particular electrical and mechanical systems for offshore substation topsides for energy projects.

Created in 1914, HSM Offshore Energy is located in the Rotterdam area and generates annual revenues of around €280m with 140 employees.

Smulders specialises in large steel construction projects including the engineering and construction of transition pieces, jackets and HVAC substation structures.

Smulders said the integration of the two companies will strengthen their efficiency and their capacity to deliver large projects.

The transaction is subject to approval by the competition authorities.

HSM Offshore Energy and Smulders have already worked together to provide topsides for offshore wind farms.

They have partnered on significant projects for the integration of auxiliary and high-voltage equipment off the coasts of Germany and Belgium.

Last week, a HSM Offshore Energy, Smulders and Iv partnership moved the 300MW Jasmund offshore substation topside and lifted the transformers for 50Hertz at HSM Offshore Energy’s Stormpolder yard in the Netherlands.

The Jasmund offshore substation will serve as a crucial connection point between the Windanker offshore wind farm, located north-east of the island of Rugen in the Baltic Sea, and the electricity grid.
