AES Solar has installed 250 solar PV panels at Inverness charity New Start Highland.
The Forres-based organisation has installed the panels across New Start Highland’s retail outlets, storage facilities, training buildings and offices.
It is one of the most prominent reconfigurations at the charity’s Carsegate Road headquarters in Merkinch, Inverness and was made possible by support from the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES).
The installations are estimated to generate a combined annual production of 101kWh and save 15 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year – the estimated annual equivalent of planting 704 trees.
New Start Highland is focused on helping Scotland move towards net zero, implementing strategies that not only reduce energy consumption, but also contribute to a circular economy.
Through collecting, recycling and reusing furniture and household goods, the charity has diverted over 9600 items from going to landfill in the last year alone.
New Start Highland chief executive James Dunbar said: “The installation of our new solar panels marks a significant step forward in enhancing our energy efficiency.
“The installation process was seamless, and we are excited to experience both the environmental and economic benefits of this investment.”
AES Solar’s commercial director Jamie Di Sotto said: “The addition of solar panels at New Start Highland’s operations is a direct reflection of the charity’s broader commitment to operating sustainably.
“Not only will the installations significantly reduce the energy costs and carbon footprint associated with both units, but they will also provide the charity with greater energy independence and lead to significant long-term savings that can be reinvested in serving communities across the Highlands.
“As a company we have enjoyed working with a social enterprise whose dedication to both environmental and social impact sets an inspiring example for others to follow.”
