DRI, the EU renewables arm of Ukrainian energy firm DTEK, has connected the 60MW Glodeni II solar park to the grid in Romania.
It means the company now has three operational renewable energy projects in the country, taking its total capacity to 173MW.
Glodeni II is located in Mureș County, with a capacity of 60MWp and an estimated annual production of 86.4 GWh, enough to power more than 22,400 homes a year.
It is DRI’s second solar park in Romania and combined with the company’s 53MWp Glodeni I, is one of the largest in the country.
Alongside, Glodeni I and II, DRI also operates the 60MWp wind farm in Ruginoasa, Iași County, which became operational in December 2023.
DRI will sell 62% of the energy produced by the two Glodeni solar plants to energy producer OMV Petrom SA, as part of Romania’s largest physical solar power purchase agreement (PPA) signed last December.
Chief executive officer of DRI Ivan Geliukh said: “2025 begins with a major success for DRI as we saw our third project, Glodeni II, becoming operational.
“The construction of this project was entirely managed by DRI’s in-house team of experts, showcasing our ability to move at pace and add real value through our extensive engineering, supply chain and construction management experience.”
He added: “Romania has set ambitious renewable energy targets and DRI is happy to contribute to the government’s goals and is quickly becoming one of the main investors in the country, where we are about to start the construction of an additional, third solar park in the Bucharest region as well.”
