New Jersey Republican Jeff Van Drew has been asked by incoming President Donald Trump to draw up an executive order banning offshore wind activities for six months, the congressman told New Jersey media last week.
Van Drew’s staff have since passed on a draft text to Trump’s transition team, and incoming staff at the Department of the Interior, which oversees offshore wind permitting.
Van Drew told NJ Spotlight that he expects an executive order on offshore wind from the Trump administration in the first couple of months.
“I’ve spoken with the president about the wind turbines, and he told me to have my people draw up an executive order. We got it done in forty-eight hours”, the congressman told NJ Spotlight.
Van Drew’s constituency covers an area of New Jersey’s coast that has seen organized opposition to offshore development.
