Prysmian, RTE ink framework agreement

Prysmian posts projects earnings boost

Prysmian has signed a framework agreement with RTE, the French transmission system operator, for cables to connect two offshore wind farms.

The agreement spans the design, supply, installation and commissioning of submarine cable links for the Fos and Narbonnaise offshore wind farms.

It covers both the submarine and onshore parts, including landworks.

These two contracts have a combined potential value of approximately €700m.

The projects are subject to call for offers by RTE and the finalisation of the terms of the relevant EPCI contracts which is expected to take place in the period 2026-2027.

Delivery and commissioning are scheduled for the period 2031-2032.

Each individual project includes three three-core 225 kV high voltage alternating current (HVAC) export cables with XLPE insulation and synthetic armour.

The approximately 400 km of land cables will be manufactured in Gron, France, while the approximately 240 km of submarine cables will be manufactured at Prysmian’s centre of excellence in Arco Felice, Italy, and Pikkala, Finland, for a total of approximately 640 km of cables (land and submarine).

The installation operations involve the use of one of Prysmian’s cable-laying vessels.

The Fos project will be developed off the coast of Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur and will require around 300 km of cables (land and submarine), while the Narbonnaise project, located off the Occitanie coast, will require around 340 km of cables (land and submarine), individually providing a potential capacity of 750MW.
