SSE hits 1m hours of safe work on Berwick Bank

SSE hits 1m hours of safe work on Berwick Bank

SSE has hit a milestone of one million hours without a lost time safety incident on the 4.1GW Berwick Bank Wind Farm on the Scottish coast.

Since 2019, Berwick Bank and its partners have completed over 200 surveys, visits and onsite activities.

Of the one million hours that have been completed, 80% have taken place offshore.

Activity has ramped up over time, and in November the Project team concluded a period of 518 continuous days of offshore operations, including over 1600 vessel days.

The company is celebrating the million hour milestone following the conclusion of the latest round of geotechnical surveys in November at the offshore site.

“This safety milestone shows the heights this team is reaching to deliver this extraordinary project.  200 activities, 15 vessels, countless sim ops and coordination activities, a million hours – all without a lost time incident”, Alex Meredith, Berwick Bank Project Director, SSE Renewables, said.

“We will always maintain SSE’s non-negotiable safety standards with all our partners as the work to deliver this exceptional project continues. The million-hour milestone is an important achievement and an opportunity to redouble our efforts to maintain our proud safety record”, Meredith added.

SSE Renewables is awaiting approval of a Section 36 consent application by Scottish Government ministers for the offshore aspects of the project.

The project has grid connections in East Lothian in 2028 and 2029 and a grid connection in Blyth, Northumberland also in 2029.
