Vestas in Italy has inaugurated a new factory line for producing blades for its 15MW offshore wind turbine model.
The new plant for the V236-15.0MW unit is located at the company’s Taranto facility in southern Italy.
“The start of the V236 blade project in Taranto marks a new milestone in Vestas’ journey to supply an offshore wind turbine that will push the boundaries of wind energy globally,” said Vestas.
The new production line has already significantly boosted local employment in Puglia.
Over the past year, the factory has increased its workforce from around 700 to over 1600.
To support the increased production, the company plans to employ 2000 people at the site in the coming months.
In total, the V236 project will create around 1300 new jobs at the factory.
“We are confident that the V236-15.0MW will benefit from the expertise and experience that has been accumulated at our Taranto plant since 1998,” said Vestas.
