Sif, Smulders to supply EA2 foundations

Sif and Smulders have confirmed a contract to supply monopiles and transition pieces for ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia 2 (EA2) 960MW offshore wind project off the UK.

ScottishPower Renewables has signed the contracts with Sif Netherlands for the supply of 64 monopiles, and with a joint venture between Sif and Smulders for the supply of 64 transition pieces.

The monopiles will be manufactured in Sif’s newly expanded factory at Maasvlakte 2 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The transition pieces will be manufactured in Sif’s factory in Roermond, the Netherlands (primary steel) and Smulders’ facility in Hoboken, Belgium (outfitting).

The structures will be loaded out to the foundation installation or transport vessels from Sif’s Maasvlakte 2 deep sea quay.

The announcement comes just weeks after ScottishPower Renewables’ £4bn EA2 offshore wind farm was successful in the new UK government’s Contracts for Difference Allocation Round 6 in September 2024.

EA2 will be located almost 33km off the Suffolk coast.

Production of the monopiles and transition pieces will start in the second half of 2026.

The project was already in Sif’s and Smulders’s order books for 2026 under exclusive negotiations and is now final, bringing Sif’s order book for 2026 to 210 kilotonnes in firm contracts.

ScottishPower Renewables chief executive Charlie Jordan said: “It’s great to confirm this important contract with Sif and Smulders so soon after East Anglia TWO’s Contracts for Difference success and we’re really pleased to welcome them to our East Anglia supply chain family.

“This will allow us to continue to move at pace to bring this vital project to life and powering cleaner and greener lives for years to come.”

Sif Holding chief executive Fred van Beers said: “We thank ScottishPower Renewables for the trust and the open exchange of ideas in the preliminary phase.

“This contributed highly to the speed in which the capacity reservation agreement for this project, that was already included in our order book for 140 kilotonnes, could be converted into a final contract.

“We look forward to a continued constructive execution phase of this great contract.”

Smulders managing director Raf Iemants added: “This partnership underscores our commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions for the offshore wind market.

“We look forward to contributing our expertise to ensure the successful completion of this significant project.”
