Energy storage solution provider Trina Storage has signed an agreement with Lower 48 Energy to deliver a 98MWh BESS project at a two-acre site in Preston in the UK.
The implementation makes use of the vertically integrated Trina Storage Elementa system, featuring Trina Storage’s second-generation proprietary cells.
Deliveries are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024, with energisation planned for 2025. Once online, the project will bring new grid stability and arbitrage capabilities to the site, said Trina Storage, a business unit of Trina Solar.
The site will have the capacity to store and supply 66 million kWh of electricity annually, which is equivalent to supplying 22,750 households, and will help enable further renewable energy generation and replace gas peaking plants.
As a new independent power producer in the UK market, this project is the first for Lower 48 Energy, and the first investment into UK battery energy storage systems by its majority owner, Castleton Commodities International LLC.
