Engie has secured a CPPA with Atlas Copco Airpower to offtake energy from the 325MW C-Power wind farm off the Belgium coast.
The PPA means Atlas can run its smart factory in Wilrijk partly on wind energy from the North Sea.
Engie manages part of the energy from North Sea offshore wind farm and distributes that energy to a group of companies active in Belgium, including Atlas Copco.
Wouter Ceulemans, president of the airtec division at Atlas Copco Airpower, said: “Atlas Copco Group wants to contribute to the sustainable energy transition.
“With this subscription, we are taking another step towards achieving our sustainability goals, reducing emissions from our own operations by 46% by 2030.
Vincent Verbeke, chief executive of Engie Belgium, added: “As the world’s largest developer of green PPAs, Engie wants to help its clients reduce the carbon footprint of their operations.
“Thanks to this agreement, the first PPA for Atlas Copco, the company will be able to save 9,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.”
