Germany’s latest onshore wind tender has been oversubscribed attracting nearly 3GW.
According to results of the tender on 1 August held by the Federal Network Agency, 230 bids totalling 2723MW were successful, with only one bid excluded.
The bids exceed the 2.5GW needed to meet the country’s annual expansion target.
A total of 239 offers were submitted with a bid volume of 2961MW, marking the first time since February 2022 the tender was oversubscribed.
The Federal Network Agency had reduced the tender volume from 4.1GW to 2.7GW in the run-up to the bidding date.
This time a large number of bids were submitted with older permits compared to the previous bidding rounds.
Projects not been awarded a contract now can participate again in the next round in November and the Federal Network Agency will decide on the determination of the tender volume for the next round of tenders by 18 October 2024 at the latest.
The values determined in the tender vary between €0.573/kWh and €0.735/kWh.
By far the largest award volume was accounted for by bids for sites in North Rhine-Westphalia (756MW, 84 awards), followed by sites in Brandenburg (385MW, 23 awards), Schleswig-Holstein (285MW, 24 awards), Hesse (246MW, eight awards) and Lower Saxony (237 MW, 24 awards).
In relation to the southern federal states, eight awards (101MW) were made to sites in Bavaria.
In Baden-Wurttemberg no location was successful.
