Thistle Wind Partners (TWP) has submitted its offshore scoping report to the Scottish government’s Marine Directorate – Licensing & Operations Team for the offshore infrastructure associated with its 1GW Bowdun offshore wind farm.
The move follows the announcement last week regarding the submission of the onshore scoping report to Aberdeenshire Council for the site.
Both reports are now available on the TWP website as well as the relevant Aberdeenshire Council and Marine Directorate web pages.
The wind farm will be built in the E3 leasing zone – a 187-square kilometre area of seabed located about 44km from Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire.
TWP submitted a bid for the option to lease this area of seabed during the ScotWind leasing round, where Crown Estate Scotland invited offshore wind developers to put forward proposals for wind farm projects around the coasts of Scotland.
In January 2022, Crown Estate Scotland announced TWP’s bid to build the Bowdun offshore wind farm was successful.
TWP was also awarded a lease option to build the 1GW Ayre Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Orkney.
The Bowdun Offshore Wind Farm will contribute more than 1GW of renewable energy to the National Grid, which is enough to power more than 1.2 million households.
