Ocean Winds has officially opened its new operations and maintenance base in Buckie, north-east-Scotland, that will service the 882MW Moray West wind farm once it is commissioned next year.
Scottish First Minister John Swinney visited the facility today (9 September) to tour the new offices, warehousing and training facilities, plus extensively redeveloped quayside area that features pontoons, cranes and fuel storage for crew transfer vessels.
When fully operational the base will handle up to 100 vessel movements a week.
Ocean Winds said recruitment is well advanced towards the full staffing complement for Moray West of more than 60 long term local roles.
The new base at Buckie complements the base at Fraserburgh the developer utilises for its 950MW Moray East project.
Scottish First Minister John Swinney said: “The opening of Moray West’s O&M base highlights the long-lasting, positive impact of offshore wind for Scotland’s economy and communities.
“Our potential for renewable energy generation is one of our greatest environmental and economic opportunities, creating thousands of good Scottish jobs.
“The Scottish Government is determined to maximise the benefits from developing Scotland’s significant offshore wind potential for the workforce, businesses and communities.”
Ocean Winds CEO Craig Windram added: “Opening this new cutting-edge operation and maintenance facility will enable our expert teams to safely and efficiently ensure the smooth running of Moray West. In the current international context, I am delighted to showcase our commitment to the creation of local opportunities thanks to our offshore wind projects, and to delivering clean and reliable energy to the countries in which we operate.”
