Clarksons Offshore & Renewables has announced the appointment of Steve Shin Ryoo as broker and country manager in South Korea.
With a career spanning over a decade in the marine salvage, dredging, and offshore wind sectors, Steve is set to bring invaluable expertise to the team, said the maritime operator.
Ryoo joins Clarksons from his position as managing director at The KR Dredging Co, a marine salvage and dredging company where he led government and international dredging projects in Singapore and Thailand.
His career began in 2007 at Korea Salvage Co, in Busan, Republic of Korea, where he managed the company’s towage and salvage team and projects, including vessel chartering, procurement of salvage equipment, and yard management.
Ryoo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Sociology from the University of Minnesota and a Juris Doctor degree from Ave Maria School of Law, where he studied under a Dean’s scholarship.
As a licensed lawyer and a member of the New York State Bar Association, the company said Ryoo brings a unique blend of legal insight with commercial and industry expertise.
His ability to maintain strong working relationships with Korean government bodies and contacts throughout the supply chain highlights his strengths in navigating complex industry landscapes, it added.
In his new role within the Offshore division at Clarksons, Ryoo will concentrate on vessel chartering, sale and purchase, as well as providing offshore wind advisory and consultancy services, alongside Clarksons’ global team.
The company said his appointment will strengthen Clarksons’ position in South Korea, where it has been present since October 2017, enabling the group to continue delivering value to clients and expand its footprint in South Korea’s growing Offshore Wind industry.
“As the leading offshore marine advisor, Clarksons Renewables has been an active participant in the Asia offshore wind market since its early days, providing consultancy and procurement support to our client base throughout the supply chain,” said head of APAC renewables and divisional director Neil Buchan
He added: “2024 has been a particularly successful year for the team so far, with the team managing newbuilding and second hand vessel transactions, undertaking multiple consultancy scopes as well as facilitating both short and long term vessel charters for key clients in the region.
“Taking Steve on board is a further commitment based on our understanding of the value that is added to both domestic partners seeking to diversify into the exciting world of offshore wind, and international clients who are looking to navigate the complexities of operating in unfamiliar regions.’
Ryoo said:”I am looking forward to developing a client base in Korea with the local network I have built up during the last 10 years of my career.
“I am also very grateful to be able to represent Clarksons Offshore & Renewables team in South Korea, introducing and connecting Clarksons with local shipowners and other interested parties, particularly for the offshore wind industry.”
