Korea’s LS Marine Solution has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Taiwanese service operations vessel (SOV) specialist Dong Fang Offshore.
The two companies will explore collaboration on complex construction support for offshore wind projects in Korea, and LS Marine Solution will charter an SOV from DFO. The arrangement will see the first SOV introduced in the Korean market.
With offshore wind power complexes in Korea built approximately 10 km from the coasts, workers have to commute between the complexes and nearby harbours on a daily basis. When LS Marine Solution’s SOV is introduced, the workforce will be able to stay at the complex for a long time while receiving hotel-quality service, the company said.
“For the SOV business, a dynamic positioning system (DP system) for precision location adjustment of the hulls is important,” said a company official. “LS Marine Solution is equipped with unrivaled DP system operation experience and a dedicated wharf, and also has strengths in the field of vessel repair.”
