Italian floating wind developer Renexia is in talks to use Mingyang turbines for its 2800MW project in the Mediterranean Sea.
Renexia, the renewables arm of Italy’s Toto construction group, announced on LinkedIn it has been in discussions with Mingyang over its planned Med Wind project off the coast of Sicily.
The post stated that with an expected production of 9TWh per year, Med Wind will position Italy as a “European leader in the sector also thanks to Mingyang’s innovations in turbine design, which will significantly raise the efficiency and capacity of the project”.
Renexia recently visited China on a trade mission that included Minister for business and trade Adolfo Urso.
The developer’s partner Seas Geosciences recently completed seabed survey activity for Med Wind, using fully automated geotechnical coring equipment to sample and test the seabed soil, achieving a penetration of more than 40 metres below the seabed.
The survey took place in water depths ranging from 600 metres to 1200 metres.
Renexia’s 30MW Beleolico offshore wind farm, located in the Mediterranean Sea off Taranto, features 10 MingYang MySE 3.0-135 turbines, which have been in operation since 2022.
