Acciona Energía has commissioned the Red-Tailed Hawk photovoltaic plant (pictured) located near Houston, Texas.
With a capacity of 458MWp, it is the largest solar complex the company has built to date.
Red-Tailed Hawk joins Acciona Energía’s portfolio of renewables projects in North America, where it has a total of 2.7GW installed.
In addition, the company is building the 280MW Forty Mile wind farm in Alberta, Canada and the 325MWp Union Solar photovoltaic plant in Ohio.
The new facility has panels attached to solar trackers oriented according to the path of the sun, maximizing exposure to sunlight and production.
The plant will generate 742GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of around 66,500 homes, which will avoid the emission of around 430,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The project is part of Acciona Energía’s Social Impact Management programme, which reinvests part of the annual revenues of its facilities to improve training, well-being and environmental management in the communities where it operates.
In addition to its contribution to decarbonization, Red-Tailed Hawk has generated new job opportunities in the area, creating up to 400 jobs during the construction of the park and 15 permanent jobs.
