Habitat Energy has been appointed by Acciona Energía to manage its 190MW/380MWh Cunningham battery in the ERCOT region.
Located in Hunt County, Texas, Acciona Energía purchased the facility (pictured) from Qcells in December 2022.
The Cunningham project represents one of the largest battery energy storage systems in ERCOT.
Habitat will begin operating the battery from June 2024 in time for the critical summer period when high demand and variable renewable generation have driven increased price volatility in recent years.
Michael Kirschner, managing director USA at Habitat Energy, said: “Battery optimisation is a complex business and Habitat Energy has honed its skills in some of the world’s most advanced energy storage markets.
“We are incredibly proud of our performance in ERCOT and taking on Cunningham on behalf of Acciona Energía speaks to our results.
“We look forward to collaborating further as we expand our presence in the US and beyond.”
The two companies are exploring further opportunities to expand their partnership in the US and overseas, across both battery storage and wind and solar.
Habitat Energy is a portfolio company of Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, a specialist investment manager focused exclusively on the infrastructure needed to drive the energy transition in the UK, US, and Australia.
