Four Siemens Energy high voltage transformer destined for Orsted and Eversource Energy’s 924MW Sunrise Wind offshore wind farm have arrived in New York.
The transformers, which mark Siemens Energy’s first HVDC offshore grid connection in the US, are on their way to Brookhaven, New York.
Orsted and Eversource jointly took a final investment decision on the project in March 2024.
Located approximately 30 miles (48 km) east of Montauk, New York, Sunrise Wind is expected to be the country’s largest offshore wind farm upon completion, generating enough renewable energy to power nearly 600,000 New York homes.
The project is anticipated to be operational in 2026.
Last month Eversource Energy finalised definitive documents regarding its agreement to sell its 50% ownership stake in the project to Orsted.
The transaction is expected to close later this year.
