The Dutch Government has confirmed that its target to deploy 21GW of offshore wind by 2031 is likely to be achieved a year late.
Minister for Climate and Energy Rob Jetten said in a letter to the Dutch parliament that the revised timescale had been caused by delays to grid connections and supply chain constraints.
Under the country’s offshore wind energy roadmap transmission system operator TenneT is expected to complete a total of 17 grid connections between the onshore network and sites in the North Sea.
Five are currently in operation for 3.5GW capacity tendered between 2016-20.
Jetten said: “The realisation of 21GW is a gigantic task with many challenges.
“According to this updated schedule, the 21GW will be reached by the end of 2032.
“This is a year later than originally planned, due to the lead times of spatial procedures for the grid connections, the pressure in the supply chain and more time required to connect the wind farms to the offshore grid.”
