Germany’s latest ground-mounted solar project tender has been oversubscribed, well in excess of the 2234MW of capacity tendered for in the round that had a deadline of 1 March 2024.
Due to the statutory expansion of targets, the tendered volume increased from 1.6GW to 2.2GW compared to the previous round.
Nearly 570 bids were submitted with a volume of 4.1GW and 326 bids with a volume of 2.2GW were accepted.
As in the previous rounds, bids for sites in Bavaria (806MW, 156 awards) accounted for by far the largest volume of awards, followed by Schleswig-Holstein (221MW, 17 awards) and Lower Saxony (199MW, 20 awards).
Most of the awards went to projects planned on verges on motorways or railways (141 awards with a total of 1058MW).
The second highest volume of awards is for projects on arable land or grassland in so-called less-favoured areas (127 awards with 792MW).
These areas can only be used to a limited extent for agriculture and are therefore particularly suitable for the construction of solar plants.
“The tender continues to be characterised by a very high level of participation,” said Federal Network Agency president Klaus MUller.
“For the past four rounds, the bid quantity received has significantly exceeded the tendered volume.
“Despite the increase in tender volumes, there is stable competition in this segment.”
The strike prices determined in the bidding process range from €0.36/MWh to €0.55/MWh.
The average volume-weighted award value in this round is €0.51/MWh, a similar level as in the previous round, said the agency.
