RWE has commissioned its largest solar project in Spain to date – the 92MW Gazules is a ground-mounted photovoltaic power plant in the Andalusian province of Cádiz.
It consists of two solar power plants – Gazules 1 and Gazules 2 – with a nominal capacity of 46 MWac each.
RWE has installed around 240,000 bifizial modules on a total area of 140 hectares.
The solar park fed electricity into the grid for the first time in February 2024 and was gradually put into operation, with full commissioning taking place in April.
Gazules will supply around 20,000 Spanish households with green electricity every year.
Katja Wünschel, chief executive of onshore wind and solar for Europe and Australia at RWE Renewables, said: “In less than two years, we have installed more than 550,000 solar panels on the Iberian Peninsula and increased our solar capacity there sixfold to around 300MW.
“That’s a fantastic track record.
“The sun in Europe is a great partner on our path to climate neutrality by 2040.
“With Gazules, we have commissioned our largest solar plant on the Iberian Peninsula to date.”
