Statkraft and Alterric, Germany’s largest onshore green power producer, have concluded several long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with terms of two to five years.
Under the agreement, Statkraft will purchase around 1.2TWh or 330GWh of green electricity annually from eleven wind farms with an installed capacity of almost 150MW over the entire term of the contracts.
The wind farms operated by Alterric are located in Brandenburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia and have been in operation for two to eight years.
Alterric is responsible for the projects’ development and construction and will operate the wind farms.
The long-term purchase of the green electricity generated ensures the economic operation of the wind turbines without any possible use of the market premium and at the same time allows the market use of guarantees of origin from Germany, Alterric said.
Statkraft will integrate this green electricity into the supply of companies in various industrial sectors such as transport, automobiles, optical and optoelectronic industries, glass production and building materials according to their individual requirements.
Patrick Koch, Statkraft’s head of the origination business in Germany, said: “We are pleased to have found a strong partner in Alterric who we can give long-term planning security by purchasing electricity at fixed prices.
“Using wind power from the Alterric portfolio, we can tailor green power products for our industrial customers and help them meet their climate goals.
“Our customers can integrate Statkraft’s PPAs into their usual procurement strategy and do not have to fix the price when concluding the contract.”
Malte Neuendorff, head of marketing and market development at Alterric, added: “By working with Statkraft, we can provide companies with green electricity from Germany and thus make an important contribution to making Germany a climate-neutral industrial location.
“With this partnership, we are taking another important step towards the energy transition.”
