Linxon completes work on Viking Link substation

Linxon completes work on Viking Link substation

Linxon is marking the certified takeover of the extension of Bicker Fen 400 kV AIS substation, part of the commissioning of the 1400MW Viking Link between the UK and Denmark.

The high voltage direct current (HVDC) electricity link connects Bicker Fen in the UK to Revsing southern Jutland, Denmark, and enables power to be shared between the two countries for the first time.

Viking Link and its substations will allow both Britain and Denmark increased access to clean, green energy and improve energy security for both countries.

Necessitating a converter station and substation in each country, Linxon played a key role in the delivery of National Grid Electricity Transmission’s Bicker Fen 400 kV AC substation extension in Lincolnshire, UK.

Passing British, Dutch, German and Danish waters, Viking Link is a joint venture between the UK’s National Grid and Danish System Operator Energinet.

The link stretches for 765 km between the two countries.

In a contract awarded in late 2020, Linxon provided the EPC solution for the extension of double busbars, bus coupler and two user (interconnector) bays.

“Viking Link offers a broader energy mix, a more sustainable approach to growing energy needs and ultimately lower prices for consumers in peak consumption periods,” said Stefan Reisacher, CEO at Linxon.

“We are delighted to have worked with National Grid on a project that allows Linxon’s expertise in energy transmission to come to the fore.”

In April 2024, Linxon starts work on the Messaure substation in Jokkmokk, connecting northern Sweden to Finland via the Aurora Line which is due to be commissioned in 2025.
